Why Are You Up All Night?

March 30th, 2010

Well, it’s nighttime again and I am still sitting in front of my computer, trying to get some perspective on some things I’ve been working on, lately.

See, my problem with game design is, that I am quite addicted to it. It’s not only the possibility to create living characters, plots and even whole worlds, no – it’s the possibility to make the pictures in your mind come to live.

But then there are times, like now, when my mind is just flooded with ideas and images and nothing really works out the way you imagined it all in your mind. Most times I compensate this state of mind with a really large amount of sleep. Well… mostly. Not tonight. There are very rare nights like this one, when I am afraid to go to bed because my mind constantly tells me, that doing so would kill the pictures and remove something really beautiful from this world.

No chance to get people to see the pictures lost. No chance to get people to have fun with your ideas and – the most important one – No chance to ever get your game to be the best you could make of the resources you had.

See, game design is not always million dollar budgets, years of development time and 70+ people working on the title. Sometimes it is the little games, which we care about the most. I am absolutely certain, that we can make the best games on the face of earth, as long as we keep these little ideas and pictures and don’t waste them to the endless universe.

If we then put everything into the game, like our souls, happiness, sadness, love, passion and power the outcome can be stunning and beautiful.

So if you’re asking me, why I am sitting at my desk in front of my painfully loud computer at 2:30 in the night, almost falling asleep and knowing, that the next day starts in about five to six hours – you now know the answer.

It’s because of making good games.

Keep your heads up people, the night just started!

Another week and back at work…

February 12th, 2010

So it’s been a week again and all of the remaining hardware has arrived. We put together the furniture on monday 1st and then used the rest of the week to set up (and buy additional-) hardware and software. I don’t know about the others, but for me this office already feels like home, although we have no decoration and plants , yet. It’s nice to have such nice co-workers and everybody is pretty excited.

This week we started the pre-production phase which is – although I worked on this over the past four months – still a lot of work. I’m happy to announce to you the fresh lauch of the company’s new website which is – for now – a small rebuild of this site. I am glad to get so much support, I really appreciate that.

As far as I am concearned, the project can go on just the way it does right now. If you guys want to know anything specific about the company, either drop me a comment or wait until further detail is released.

Rock on!

Hardware day!

January 31st, 2010

So, after the nice guys from alternate sent almost everything I ordered (who needs keyboards, switches and printers anyway?!)  and trans-o-flex managed not to damage the packages during their crazy maneuvers on the iced road, I can post this happy-me picture:

component packege....

So well… I love this weekend. Monday is the first day at the office, and I look forward to holding the key in my hands. This is quite a unique week. After setting up the furniture and the pcs we will descend into town to celebrate.

I registered the domain already, but it points to this page which I am going to change as soon as the ISP sets up the lines at the office.

Tomorrow is the first day of Daylight Interactive. Wish us the best and stop by every now and then to take part in the changes.

Yours, Nadim

And yet another update….

January 27th, 2010

I have to admit, I couldn’t resist akismet und several other plugins. So I tweaked the site a little….

I hope you enjoy tonight’s special feature:     COMMENTS ARE AVAILABLE AGAIN !

Have fun guys, I’ going to catch some sleep.

Great, updates finsihed

January 27th, 2010

I already thought this night could hold some sleep for me, but no way – some things never change.

So I expected this site update to be a lot quicker, but I had to find out, that the whole database had to be rebuilt in a newer version of mysql. Figuring out all the problems took me quite a while. So it’s quite early in the morning now, and I watch over what is mine and wallow in this triumph of man over machine.

Keep the page in your sight, things have been going really well the last days and I am going to give you a small update reeeeaallly soon. So stay tuned, it’s only 4 days until everything is going to change. Believe me.

Movies about game design?!

March 30th, 2009

Most of the time, I spend my weekend with a combination of watching dvds, going out and sleeping. But today I realized something odd. There is at least one tv-series or soap opera which adresses a certain job or profession.

There is the IT-crowd (IT/programming/system administration a.s.o.), Scrubs (medicine), several shows about cooking, building or tuning, Jag (military), Shark (justice/law), and many more.

So for several reasons, these jobs seem to inspire people, showing them how interesting their lives would/could be, if they had chosen a different path.

Nightfall

March 14th, 2009

When it comes to sleeping, people tend to be pretty honest. They tell you everything, from when, to how, to where… sometimes even with whom. But before you judge me now and think “whow, this guy is totally nuts” please… bear with my 5 o’clock in the moring thinking, because

The shape of things to come

February 25th, 2009

Things have been quite boring around here lately.

This is going to change.

Soon.

Vacation

September 18th, 2008

Hurray!

Free time. Time to do anything I always wanted to do. That’s really great.

I feel like myself again, with all this creativity coming back into my body after I had some time with my girlfriend.

Anything good at the moment, I just get a little thoughtful.

It’s a slow day…

August 24th, 2008

And now that I had the whole weekend to myself I realize how tired I must have been. I really had to talk myself into going out and train. Now, after training and taking a shower I feel quite fresh and alive.

I am not really able to talk about much at the moment. Maybe I’ll write a short update in the next few days.
